An Old Man

The End of a FamilyThere was an old manWho lived down the streetI saw him outside his house upon occasionHe was walking around looking at the weeds in his bushesAnd the paint peeling from his fenceHis car had been placed in the garage for many yearsNever moved just sitting there idleThe trees in his yard sprouted buds in the springAnd later leavesOnly to shed them a few months later floating to the groundTo lie on his lawnNever to be rakedThe snow fell upon themA window never openedA shade never closedNo lights were turned onThere appeared no life insideNo comings or goingIt was reputed that his familyOnce had lived thereOnly to die away as the fall turns to winterTheir names no longer rememberedNor what they didWhat he had done in life no one knew for sureThe only thing they knewWas that he was an old manWho would someday die tooAnd then who would live in his houseNo one knewNot even himJames TucciMay 29, 2014
