An Old Man

An Old Man

The End of a Family

There was an old man
Who lived down the street
I saw him outside his house upon occasion
He was walking around looking at the weeds in his bushes
And the paint peeling from his fence
His car had been placed in the garage for many years
Never moved just sitting there idle
The trees in his yard sprouted buds in the spring
And later leaves
Only to shed them a few months later floating to the ground
To lie on his lawn
Never to be raked
The snow fell upon them
A window never opened
A shade never closed
No lights were turned on
There appeared no life inside
No comings or going
It was reputed that his family
Once had lived there
Only to die away as the fall turns to winter
Their names no longer remembered
Nor what they did
What he had done in life no one knew for sure
The only thing they knew
Was that he was an old man
Who would someday die too
And then who would live in his house
No one knew
Not even him

The Russian Love

The Russian Love

The Russian Love

I need you
More than life itself
For without you
There is no life
You are the moon the sun and the stars
The flowers the birds the trees
It is dark without you
There can be no joy
All that sees me through
Is knowing that you are out there
Somewhere in this world
Seven hours to the east of me
In some unknown place

But knowing that you are alive and on our little planet
Gives me the strength
To awaken to the next day
And face the world
Never certain that before my time in this mystic land comes to an end
That I will ever see you again

Goodbye For Now My Russian Beauty

Goodbye For Now My Russian Beauty

No Matter Where I Go

I will be leaving
This place from which I can see your home every morning
And think about you every night
Though I cannot see you
It warms my heart to know that you are there
Just the thought of you stirs my heart
In my mind I can see you and your smile
Your eyes that sparkle
Your voice that tells me you care for me
Though we rarely saw each other
I knew that you loved me
It was simply not to be
There were too many obstacles
Too many things that came between us
And prohibited us from being together
But though I am leaving for a new home and a new world
You will be in my thoughts forever
No matter where I shall be
I will always be thinking of you
And your safety, your happiness and your being
We may be many miles removed from one another
But in my dreams and my thoughts you will always be here next to me
And that is where you will be until the day I leave this world
I shall love you until I take my last breath
And even then you will never be far from me
Because it was preordained
That we be linked and joined in this cosmos
Forever
Forever I will love you

Written in Miami, Florida for the most beautiful woman in the world,
The Russian Beauty,
The greatest woman who ever lived,
Who came from Moscow,
To grace my world and make the world a better place,
To let all of us know why women were put on this planet….
To give meaning to our souls!

The most beautiful Russian woman

The most beautiful Russian woman

An ode to an angelic Russian woman from an American man who will never forget her vision

Where were you when I needed you?
I know
By the time I was marching into the cruel and ugly world of business you were not even born
As I started my career you were a little girl in Moscow
And I was eight thousand miles away in Miami
When you finally came to the United States at fourteen I was forty- two
I had no idea that you even existed
As you returned to Russia and became an expert in your field
We were separated by miles and oceans
Again we were barely in the same universe
Only two little dots running through the world
Finally you came here
You made a new life for yourself
And I was doing the same
We were both traveling
On a journey through space
Again your presence was unknown to me
I had met some women
But none were for me
Or maybe I was not for them
Then one day I called a lady
And she said you would be perfect for the venture I was exploring
You answered on the second ring
We agreed to meet across from the Atlantic Ocean
The place was very dark
Candles flickered on the tables
The fountains danced and sparkled amid the wind and lights
I arrived and I called you on the phone
You said were already seated
As I came closer
You rose up and extended your hand
And I looked into your eyes
Without knowing it at the time
I saw the heart of Pushkin and the soul of Gogol
I saw everything wonderful and beautiful that life had to offer
Yours was the most beautiful face I had ever seen
I pursued you
We met we talked
We exchanged messages
Even poetry
But the gap was too great between us
You could never be mine
It was all a dream
Which could never be fulfilled
But to this very moment you are often on my mind
And I will always love you and wonder where you are
And what it is you are doing
Though I am relegated to love you from afar
And see only your image in my mind
You will always be a part of me
I will dream of you and what could have been
If only separated by a few less years in age and a few less miles across the broad expanse of earth
In another life you could have been mine
And I so hope that in the next life we will be joined for eternity
I have not given up the dream nor the love
I love you
And I always will

A Russian Woman With a smile

A Russian Woman With a smile

A Russian Woman with a Smile

Her head rested on her hand
A scarf wove its way around her shoulders
She looked straight into the camera
And her smile
It was slight
And it was serene
But nonetheless it was a smile

What is she thinking
He wonders as he looks into her eyes
Is she dreaming
Is she thinking
Is she wondering
Or does she know
Know what it is she is looking for.
Or just waiting for it to happen.

Is she sure of herself
And of her destiny
Or is she apprehensive
About the things to come
Thinking of her future

Is she to be alone for the journey
Or with a mate
A mate who understands her soul her heart her feelings
Is that what she wants or does she yearn for something else
A life with just her thoughts to keep her company

Maybe she is not sure
Is it best to answer to herself alone
To be the captain of her own course
To think her own thoughts
And write her own poetry

But what is poetry if no one is there to read it
No one to share it with
To understand what she is saying
To care what she is writing
And thinking and doing

She has her thoughts
Many thoughts
Of love of happiness of a future
Of peace
Of serenity

And yet she wants someone to know all this
To know how she feels
To feel it along with her

The feelings of success of defeat
Of sorrow of joy
What are these feelings if there is no one to share them with
Are they without meaning
Without any footprints in the sand

No
She knows what she wants
And only time will tell if it all comes true
Or if she is left to ponder her thoughts for eternity

I Loved You

I loved you; and perhaps I love you still,

The flame, perhaps, is not extinguished; yet

It burns so quietly within my soul,

No longer should you feel distressed by it.

Silently and hopelessly I loved you,

At times too jealous and at times too shy.

God grant you find another who will love you

As tenderly and truthfully as I.
